aeaeAAeeaaahh eee eee oooo aaaeaeAaAaeeAAaaaEEE
(translation: This is dedicated to the fine southern girls up here on Blogstream...Sisters Belle, Six, Colo, Bella, Secret, Slick, Raspberry Toast, and Chanda by proxy. I don't mean to be all geocentric and shit, but it would take any other girl 100 words to convey what a southern girl can.... just by lowering her head and cutting her eyes sideways at ya. Southern girls just inately know how to work it. I loves me some southern girls.)
aeeahhaee ee eeee ooo oo ooaaaahh eeeaaa
(translation: When this song comes up on the CD, I hit repeat at least three times. This shit is tight, yall.)
P.S. aaeeaaAAeeah eee ooo oo eeAAaeeaAAA
(translation: P.S. Do NOT miss her song "Tyrone" in the comment section! The girl don't take no shit, yall!)
dats a great post, Francis! but I try to stay away from that southern fried food, otherwise I be lookin' corn fed!
(translation: I heard that, sweet thang. But it's still a cool song, aint it? Did you listen to the song in the comments? Check it out. When a black drag queen does that number in one of the show bars in Atlanta...it's a showstopper.
(translation: Dang, Colo...caint a monkey have some fun and show a little love for his southern sisters?)
Black urban artist like Erykah have a way of sorta writing lyrics in code...kind of like a wink and a nod. They have a sly way of writing tunes can at once expose stereotypes and glorify the subjects of the lyrics. The song "Southern Girl" is a prime example.
She laying down all the stereotypes, daring you to be still believing them, and at the same time praising the strengths of southern women. Get it?
(That was fun ya'll)
Bite anyone today?
Um... that Badu would beat my whimpy silly ass to a pulp without much effort.
